The first turin grinder I got was the SD 40. Overall I found it to be a really impressive grinder, but the step settings were too far apart for espresso fine tuning.
As an experiment I cut off 2 of the 4 buttons on the lock mechanism, which allowed for more steps. I ordered a replacement stop button, and after it came I cut off one of the remaining buttons on the modified one to see if I could get even better adjustment. First try the remaining button sheared off. Lesson- if you want a 40 series grinder with fine adjustment potential buy one, don’t try modifying the SD.
