The Turin Gallatin V is a traditional E61 espresso machine for a home coffee bar that makes both espresso and milk drinks. Its two-liter heat-exchanger boiler supplies steam while a separate water path through the boiler heats water for brewing. A vibration pump and removable reservoir keep the standard setup straightforward, with flow control offered as a selectable upgrade.

How the heat-exchanger system works

A heat exchanger supports brewing and steaming without repeatedly changing a single boiler’s temperature setting. The E61 group needs time to warm through, and water sitting in the heat exchanger can become hotter during an idle period. Learn a consistent warm-up and cooling-flush routine for your coffee and operating conditions. A flush is part of using this machine well, not a sign that the PID is failing.

What the PID controls

The PID manages boiler temperature. It does not directly measure the temperature at the coffee puck, so a single boiler setting should not be presented as an exact brew-water temperature for every shot. Warm-up, idle time, flushing and the pace of drinks all matter. Use a repeatable routine first, then make small setting changes while evaluating taste.

Choose standard operation or optional flow control

The selector offers the machine with or without the flow-control option. A standard E61 group uses the brew lever for operation. The optional control adds another way to manage water delivery during extraction, which can be useful for extended wetting or a changing flow profile. It is a hands-on control: grind, dose and puck preparation still determine much of the result.

Milk drinks and water supply

Joystick steam and hot-water controls suit a traditional barista workflow. The three-hole steam tip helps texture milk, with the result depending on pitcher size, milk volume and technique. The 1.7-liter reservoir is the normal choice for this vibration-pump model. A direct-water connection with a manual valve is possible, but is recommended for occasional use on the V. Choose the rotary-pump Gallatin R if regular plumbing is a priority.

Planning the space and maintenance

Measure counter depth as well as clearance for the cup rail, reservoir access and raised brew lever. The machine weighs approximately 53.5 pounds, so choose a stable location with working space for a grinder and milk pitcher. Use suitable water and follow the manual’s cleaning schedule. Backflushing cleans the coffee circuit; it does not replace an appropriate water-treatment plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can it steam while making espresso?

The heat-exchanger layout supports a brewing and steaming workflow without changing the boiler between brew and steam modes.

Is flow control included in every Gallatin V?

No. Select the flow-control option if you want it. The selected variant determines the supplied configuration.

Does the PID remove the need for a cooling flush?

No. An E61 heat exchanger can still need a flush after standing. Follow the operating guidance and keep your routine consistent.

How does it differ from the Gallatin R?

The R uses a rotary pump and includes flow control. The V uses a vibration pump and offers flow control as an option.
