The Turin ZF83 is a hopper-based espresso grinder for a workflow built around repeated doses of the same coffee. Its 83mm DLC-coated flat burrs are paired with a touchscreen, two programmable timed doses and a manual mode. An adjustable portafilter support and trigger make it practical to grind directly into a basket during a busy sequence of drinks.
Timed dosing for a repeatable routine
Program separate single and double dose times, or run the grinder manually. The ZF83 measures running time, not the weight of coffee leaving the chute. Weigh doses during setup and recheck them as beans, grind settings and hopper level change. A saved time is a convenient starting point; it is not a guarantee that every basket contains exactly the same number of grams.
Large burrs and a hopper-fed approach
The 83mm flat burrs have a DLC coating. The hopper holds approximately 3.5 pounds of beans, allowing repeated service without loading each dose separately. Store only the coffee you expect to use within your freshness routine rather than treating the hopper as long-term storage. A shutoff flap makes hopper removal more manageable when changing beans or cleaning.
Controls designed around the portafilter
Adjust the fork to suit the portafilter you use, then verify that the basket sits securely and receives grounds cleanly. The touchscreen manages dose settings, and portafilter activation helps keep the workflow close to the espresso machine. Because basket and handle shapes vary, check support fit before depending on hands-free operation.
Static control, cooling and maintenance
The plasma system helps reduce static at the grounds exit. A removable magnetic chute gives access for routine cleaning, while a cooling fan assists thermal management. The grinder also displays environmental and bean-temperature information. Those readings can help you observe changing conditions, but do not replace weighing the dose or tasting espresso. Disconnect power before opening or cleaning internal parts.
Planning a service station
Allow approximately 24.6 inches of height for the grinder with its hopper and additional overhead space for refilling. Its 12.6-inch depth and 6.3-inch width need to be considered alongside the espresso machine, knock box and scales. Match any commercial installation to your site’s electrical and operating requirements; the commercial product name alone does not establish a particular certification or duty-cycle limit.

Frequently asked questions
Is the ZF83 a grind-by-weight model?
No. Its automatic doses are controlled by time. Use a separate scale to establish and check the dose.
Can I use different coffees for each shot?
You can change coffees, but this hopper-based workflow is designed around repeated use of one coffee. A dedicated single-dose model is more convenient for frequent switching.
Is the hopper removable?
Yes. The hopper includes a shutoff flap to help manage beans during removal.
Which version should I choose for single dosing?
Compare DF83 Gen 2 or DF83V if weighing beans before each drink is your preferred workflow.

Excellent Grinder with Little Retention and Easy Workflow
I purchased my DF83V in July of 2025 (from Coffee Addicts). First of all, I LUVLUVLUV this grinder! I was coming from an Eureka Mignon Silenzio (55mm flat burr). That was very well made, and was reliable but it needed serious shimming, a Single Dosing Kit (from Etsy), and my Profitec portafilter never fit it properly. Even though the coffee it makes is better, the biggest improvement that I enjoy every morning I think is the change in workflow.
I tested the DF83V to find it didn't need any shimming, but I did have to wait more than 3 months to get past the break-in period. The grinder consistency is not the best during this break-in period. The 83mm burrs devour the beans quickly and the results are excellent. There is almost no retention to speak about.
I bought the silver model and found it was hard to read the white lines on the dial under the kitchen lights. I then purchased a black dial from Turin and replaced it - that's much better.
As with any variable speed grinder, you can jam the grinder with light roast (ie. "hard") beans if you run the rpm too low (< 400). My biggest issue has been that under 900 rpm I can't hear it running when not grinding and I have several times left it running all day. I now only use 1100 rpm - because I can hear that . LOL
The biggest operational issue to manage carefully is the rate at which you pour in the beans - if you are not consistent then you will not get consistent grinder results (it can vary a lot). Some people like to slow-feed. IMO this huge-burred grinder doesn't need slow-feed and I weigh my beans in a cup and then pour them in. I get great consistency.
The grinder is easy to disassemble without tools and clean - although I've not found it necessary.
I highly recommend this grinder. Just excellent.

From DF83 toDF83v
After 3 years of daily 1st Gen DF83 use… A user abuse left me in need of a replacement espresso grinder.
The DF83v was ultimately what I committed to purchasing.
Every step of my daily coffee is improved.

I can't tell you how much this grinder is incredible! It is so much quieter than the previous grinders that I have had. The weight of it feels so sturdy, it's going nowhere. All and all, this is a high quality top of the line own grinders that anybody can invest in!

Top choice for single-dose espresso!
Thank you for the great grinder! The DF54 arrived in perfect condition and plugged right into our 220V setup with no issues. The grind is very uniform, there's almost no static, and for a single-dose espresso grinder at this price, it's an absolute gem. Special thanks to the seller for fast shipping and secure packaging!

I'm in love with my new Turin DF64 Gen 2.7 Grinder
So far, I've had a great experience with this grinder. It's a huge improvement over my previous Oster BVSTBMH23 grinder: it's quieter, much faster, and has almost no retention after pressing the hopper bellows a few times. It's quite heavy, so you'll want to find a permanent spot for it. You'll want to make coffee more frequently anyway. :)
I love this grinder! It is fast, is easy to adjust the grind, and the bellows clear out the burns. It also looks great on my counter. I did watch a lot of videos because this is my first real grinder, but it is pretty intuitive. Highly recommend.
