Single Dose Grinders
Precision grinders for your daily coffee ritual.
Choosing your equipment
Single-dose coffee grinders let you choose the beans for every brew. Weigh one serving, grind it fresh and keep the rest of the coffee stored separately. Explore Turin models for home espresso, filter coffee and portable brewing.
Who Single Dosing Suits
This workflow is useful if you change coffees frequently, alternate regular and decaf, or make only a few drinks a day. You control the beans going into the grinder instead of relying on a hopper timer. A coffee scale is an important companion because single dosing describes how you load the beans; it does not mean the grinder automatically weighs the output.
For a household making many drinks from the same bag, compare timed dosing grinders as well. Weighing each serving can be enjoyable and flexible, but it adds a step to every drink.
Compare the Main Turin Platforms
The DF54 offers 54mm flat burrs in a compact home grinder. The DF64 Gen 2.7 moves to a 64mm flat-burr platform with compatible aftermarket options, while DF83 Gen 2 uses 83mm flat burrs. Compare the actual burr configuration, counter space and adjustment system rather than choosing by diameter alone.
For conical burrs, the SK40 has geared stepless adjustment, while the DC63 offers a larger conical platform and magnetic chute access. These are different ways to build a weighed-dose espresso routine.
Fixed Speed or Adjustable RPM?
A fixed-speed model leaves you to concentrate on dose, grind size and brewing. CF64V, DF64V and DF83V add motor-speed control for people who want to explore how RPM interacts with their coffee and burrs. Change one variable at a time and judge the result in the cup; a lower or higher speed is not automatically better.
For travel, TrekGrind adds rechargeable portability. Its battery and dose capacity need separate consideration from a countertop grinder that stays plugged in.
Understand Retention and Daily Care
Single-dose grinders use different combinations of bellows, chute design and static control to help move grounds through. Some coffee can still remain, particularly after a large adjustment or a bean change. Check input and output while learning your grinder, follow its operating sequence and clean the exit path as directed. Choose the correct electrical listing before ordering; 220V models are listed separately.
Does single dose mean zero retention?
No. Single dosing means loading a measured serving of beans. Retention depends on the grinder, coffee, grind setting and cleaning. Bellows and an accessible chute can help manage carryover without promising identical results for every dose.
Should I weigh beans or ground coffee?
Weigh the beans before grinding and check the collected grounds when dialing in, changing coffees or investigating inconsistent output. This makes it easier to distinguish a recipe change from coffee left in the grounds path.
Can I keep beans in a single-dose hopper?
Follow the model’s instructions and capacity limits. If your preferred routine is storing beans above the burrs and dispensing programmed servings, a purpose-designed hopper and timed dosing grinder is the more relevant category to compare.
