Timed Dosing Grinders
Precision grinders for your daily coffee ritual.
Choosing your equipment
Timed dosing coffee grinders dispense grounds by running for a programmed duration. Keep your chosen coffee in the hopper, dial in the grind and adjust the timer for your target dose. Compare Turin options for a home espresso station or a more demanding coffee-service setup.
How Timed Dosing Works
A timer controls how long the grinder runs; it does not measure the weight landing in the basket. Begin with the grind setting your espresso needs, weigh a test dose and adjust the grinding time. When you change the coffee, grind setting or hopper level, check the output again. Even the same coffee can need an adjustment as it ages.
This routine is convenient when several drinks use the same beans. If you regularly switch between coffees or prepare decaf only occasionally, compare single-dose grinders before choosing.
Creyke GF64 and ZF83: Compare the Whole Grinder
The Creyke GF64 brings hopper-based grinding to a 64mm flat-burr platform. The ZF83 uses an 83mm platform and is offered as a commercial espresso grinder. Their intended settings and working capacities differ, so start with your daily routine and busiest period rather than treating them as interchangeable.
Check the product specifications for hopper capacity, controls, motor details, overall height and the included burr set. Leave enough overhead space to lift the hopper lid. For a business, assess the manufacturer’s operating guidance against the drinks you expect to serve.
Dial In the Grinder Before the Timer
Keep your basket dose and target beverage yield consistent while you establish a useful grind setting. Then program the timer around that grind. If the espresso needs a finer setting later, reweigh the dose; changing particle size can change how much coffee moves through during the same number of seconds.
A scale remains useful even after the timer is programmed. Use it to spot drift and keep a written starting recipe for each coffee. Avoid comparing timer numbers across different grinders as if they were a shared dose measurement.
Plan for Cleaning and Coffee Changes
Hopper-fed operation makes a repeatable routine straightforward, but switching beans involves the hopper and grounds already in the grinder. Follow the model’s guidance for emptying and cleaning, and account for carryover when changing coffees. Compare the new and open-box listings carefully: condition and included accessories belong to the selected product, not to the collection as a whole.
Is timed dosing the same as grind-by-weight?
No. Timed dosing controls seconds of grinding. Grind-by-weight uses a weighing system to control the dose in grams. Do not assume a timer includes weight-based dosing unless the product specifically states it.
Why does my dose change when the timer stays the same?
Beans, grind setting, feeding conditions and hopper level can affect the amount dispensed per second. Recheck the grounds on a scale after adjustments and when opening a new bag.
Which workflow is easier for switching between regular and decaf?
Single dosing usually makes frequent bean changes more straightforward. A hopper-based timed grinder is most convenient when you want repeated doses of the same coffee.
