Flat Burr Grinders
Precision grinders for your daily coffee ritual.
Choosing your equipment
Explore flat-burr coffee grinders across the Turin range, from compact home single-dose models to hopper-fed espresso grinders. Compare the burr platform alongside dosing style, motor control and the coffee you want to brew.
What Flat Burrs Tell You—and What They Do Not
A flat-burr grinder uses two facing burrs with cutting surfaces that process beans as they move through. The burr geometry, spacing, alignment and feed system all contribute to its behavior. Flat burrs are not a promise of one fixed flavor profile, and a larger diameter does not automatically make a grinder the right match for you.
Start with the brew method and routine. An espresso-focused burr set and a filter-oriented set can behave differently even when both fit the same grinder. Read the selected option’s description carefully.
Compare Turin’s Burr Platforms
The DF54 offers a compact 54mm platform. The DF64 Gen 2.7 uses 64mm burrs with fixed-speed operation. DF64V and CF64V add adjustable speed within the 64mm category, while DF83 Gen 2 and DF83V move to 83mm burrs.
For hopper use, compare the Creyke GF64 and the commercial ZF83. Their dosing workflow differs from the single-dose DF models, even though they share the broader flat-burr category.
Single Dose, Timed Dosing and RPM
Single dosing starts with weighed beans for every drink and suits frequent coffee changes. Timed dosing uses a hopper and a programmed grinding duration for repeated servings. A timer does not weigh the grounds.
Variable speed adds another adjustment to explore; fixed-speed models keep the motor controls simpler. Neither choice replaces careful grind adjustment or a consistent recipe. Use the comparison feature to separate these attributes instead of assuming all flat-burr grinders work the same way.
Plan Burr Changes and Maintenance
Explore replacement and aftermarket burrs if you have a specific brewing goal. Confirm the model, burr dimensions, mounting and installation requirements. A nominal 64mm or 83mm measurement alone is not sufficient. Clean according to the grinder’s manual and allow counter clearance for access to the burr chamber, hopper and grounds cup.
Are flat burrs always better than conical burrs?
No. Both designs can produce enjoyable espresso and brewed coffee. Compare the actual burr geometry and workflow. The SK40 and DC63 offer conical alternatives if those models better fit your preferences.
Can every flat-burr option handle both espresso and filter coffee?
The grinder’s range and the selected burr geometry both matter. Some brew-focused options are intended primarily for filter coffee. Read the selected configuration rather than relying only on the grinder family name.
Will any aftermarket burrs with the same diameter fit?
No. Mounting, thickness, rotation and other dimensions can differ. Buy a set whose compatibility is explicitly confirmed for your grinder and revision.
