Conical Burr Grinders
Precision grinders for your daily coffee ritual.
Choosing your equipment
Turin conical-burr grinders span compact electric single-dose models and a manual hand grinder. Compare the SK40, DC63 and H40 V2 by their adjustment systems, power source and the way they fit into your espresso or brewed-coffee routine.
Choose the Workflow Before the Burr Size
A conical burr set combines an inner cone-shaped burr and an outer ring. Its geometry describes the grinding mechanism, but it does not tell you whether the grinder is manual, motor driven, timed or single dose. This collection includes both electric and hand-powered options.
For regular home espresso, an electric grinder takes the turning effort out of each serving. For travel or a setup without an outlet, a hand grinder avoids charging and power requirements. Both benefit from a measured dose and consistent preparation.
SK40: Fine Geared Adjustment
The SK40 pairs 40mm conical burrs with stepless worm-drive adjustment. The geared control is useful for small espresso corrections, especially when you mainly use one brewing method. Large changes between espresso and coarse brewing take more turning, so consider how often you move across the range.
It uses a fixed-speed motor and a weighed-dose workflow. The presence of different loaded and unloaded RPM specifications does not mean the grinder has selectable speed control.
DC63: A Larger Conical Platform
The DC63 uses 63mm Red Titanium-coated conical burrs with a large stepless dial. Its magnetic chute, knocker, bellows and ionizer are practical grounds-handling features. Automatic stop finishes the grinding cycle; it does not measure your dose in grams.
Compare footprint, loading clearance and the selected voltage. The DC63 collection brings together its standard and 220V listings so you can choose the appropriate electrical configuration.
H40 V2 and Other Alternatives
The H40 V2 provides manual conical-burr grinding with external adjustment. Plan for the physical effort of fine grinding if espresso is your main method. If you want to compare burr shapes, explore flat-burr grinders such as DF54 and DF64. Judge the complete grinder and your preferred coffee style instead of treating either burr shape as universally superior.
Do conical burrs always produce the same flavor?
No. Cutting geometry, coffee, grind setting and brewing all influence the cup. Broad descriptions of burr shape are useful for comparison, but they cannot predict every coffee’s taste.
Does the DC63 automatically weigh coffee?
No. Its stop function detects the end of grinding. Weigh beans before loading and check the grounds with a scale when dialing in or changing coffees.
Which model suits frequent travel without charging?
The hand-powered H40 V2 needs neither mains power nor a battery. Compare its capacity, packed size and manual effort against your travel routine.
