The Turin Gallatin R combines the familiar E61 heat-exchanger workflow with a rotary pump and included flow control. It suits an espresso enthusiast who wants a traditional machine with room to experiment and the option of a permanent water connection. The steam system, brew lever and walnut controls keep daily operation tactile rather than menu-driven.

Rotary pump with a choice of water supply

Use the removable 1.7-liter reservoir or install an appropriate direct-water supply. The rotary-pump configuration makes the R the natural Gallatin HX choice when regular plumbed operation is part of the plan. The drip tray can also be connected to a drain. Plan water quality, pressure, access and drainage with a suitable installer; a plumbed machine still requires cleaning and maintenance.

Included flow control for hands-on extraction

The group’s flow-control mechanism lets you adjust water delivery during a shot. You can experiment with gentle wetting before increasing flow, or reduce flow later in the extraction. This is not an automatic saved pressure profile. Work from a stable dose, grind setting and beverage yield, and change the flow pattern deliberately so you can understand its effect.

Heat exchanger and PID: what to expect

The two-liter stainless-steel boiler supplies steam and heats the brew-water path through a heat exchanger. The PID regulates the boiler; it does not directly report coffee-puck temperature. Allow the E61 group to warm fully and use the recommended cooling-flush routine after idle periods. A reliable sequence of warming, flushing and brewing matters more than assigning an exact puck temperature to a boiler display.

Making espresso and milk drinks

The E61 brew lever starts and stops extraction, while the steam and hot-water controls use joysticks. The three-hole steam tip gives you the capacity to practice milk texture without changing the machine from a brew mode to a steam mode. Purge and wipe the wand promptly, and choose a pitcher that suits the amount of milk you are preparing.

Counter space and ownership

The body is approximately 11.26 inches wide, but leave room around it for tank access, the portafilter handle and cleaning. At roughly 53.5 pounds, it belongs on a stable counter. The preorder and ready-to-order selections are separate options: choose the exact finish and availability label before checkout rather than assuming a photograph indicates stock.
