We are thrilled to present the next evolution in coffee grinding technology - the Turin DF64 Gen 2. Replacing its esteemed and proven predecessor, the Gen 2 takes coffee grinding to new heights with a host of updates and innovative features that promise to elevate your coffee brewing experience.

Crafted with passion and expertise, the Turin DF64 Gen 2 embodies the perfect fusion of form and function. Building upon the success of the original model, this new version boasts a plethora of enhancements designed to redefine what a coffee grinder can achieve. Among the most notable improvements is the introduction of a cutting-edge plasma generator, specially engineered to tackle the notorious issue of static build-up during the grinding process.

The plasma generator works its magic, significantly reducing static electricity, allowing for smoother and more consistent grinding. Say goodbye to clumping and uneven particle distribution, as the Turin DF64 Gen 2 ensures your coffee grounds are precisely milled for a delightful and balanced extraction every time.

Durability and reliability remain at the core of the Turin DF64 Gen 2's design. Engineered with top-tier materials and precision engineering, this grinder is built to withstand the rigors of daily use and provide years of exceptional performance.

Low Retention

The Turin DF64 Gen 2 is a low retention grinder.

Low retention in a coffee grinder refers to the ability of the grinder to minimize the amount of ground coffee that remains trapped or stuck within the grinding chamber, chute, or other internal components after the grinding process is complete. Retention can lead to stale coffee grounds mixing with freshly ground coffee, resulting in inconsistent flavor profiles and reduced overall brewing quality.  With traditional grinders this retained coffee either ends up in the next day’s shot, or users have to purge this amount and discard for optimal flavor. With single dosing and the use of bellows, the amount that is retained in Turin DF64 is usually a percentage of a gram.

Simple Design

The design of the Turin DF64 Gen 2 is very straightforward and has minimalistic features that prevent points of failure from unneeded parts and features. With fewer parts, especially electronic parts, there are fewer points of failure.

Heavy Duty Metal Construction

With our coffee grinder's heavy-duty metal construction, you can rest assured that every grinding session is met with consistency, reliability, and unparalleled performance. Whether you're grinding for espresso, pour-over, or any other brewing method, this grinder is built to handle it all, and more, making it a truly indispensable tool for all coffee aficionados. Embrace the strength and precision of our heavy-duty metal coffee grinder and elevate your coffee experience to new heights.

Color Variations

The Turin DF64 Gen 2 is offered in both black and white.  The collar of the grinder is a machined/polished aluminum.

Choose Your Burrs

The latest burrs from Turin offer the ability to grind both espresso and drip.  The Turin stainless steel burrs come as the stock burr option.   Turin offers an option to upgrade to DLC coated burrs with the same burr geometry.

Additional offerings from SSP such as the High Uniformity (HU) burrs are fantastic for a more dedicated espresso burr.

SSP High Uniformity burrs are good for providing high mouthfeel, intense shots, balanced flavors with some floral / fruity flavors.

Similarly the Multi Purpose (MP or Unimodal) burrs from SSP offer a high clarity which can really bring out the intense flavors in both espresso and pour over methods.

Stepless Adjustment

The Turin DF64 Gen 2 is a stepless adjustment grinder with an infinite number of settings between the highest and lowest settings on the grinder. This allows the user to fine tune the grind size to precisely the best grind size for each given coffee. The adjustment dial has labels for different types of coffees to make it easier to find the correct grind size, but those are for reference only and the grind size for every coffee bean can be fine tuned to both the individual bean attributes as well as the brew method.

Competitive Pricing

When you compare the Turin DF64 Gen 2 to other grinders in it’s price range it is very difficult to find anything that has as good build quality, as low retention, as sturdily built and that provides as high quality grinds as the Turin DF64 Gen 2. Even when compared with much higher priced grinders that are $1000 or more, it competes very well in the grind quality category. It really does punch a few notches above it’s price point. In our opinion, it is the best valued grinder on the market in it’s price range – even as high as twice it’s price range.

Versatile Grinder

The Turin DF64 Gen 2 provides consistent grinds for a range of coffees, including: espresso, pour over, v60, siphon, cold brew, French press, drip and more.

Modification Friendly

There are numerous 3D printed and other modifications out there that people have made for the DF64. We sell two of those, the dial indicator (makes it easier to see the grind size you are on) and the tilted cup holder (brings the cup closer to the grounds chute to prevent coffee grounds from falling out of the cup).

Broke on first use.

The first time I used the grinder it got completely packed with coffee grounds, so much so the burrs stopped spinning. I had to open it up and clean it out and put it back together and I tried one more time to grind coffee beans and it just immediately jammed again. I feel like I wasted my money.

Amazing upgrads

We've been eyeing this Turin grinder for some time now and are so glad we decided to purchase. Impressed by the quality and quietness of this grinder. Makes a huge difference for our daily espressos and we're confident now to try new coffees and roasts on our home machine.

A Solid Grinder

DF64 Gen 2 grinds espresso very well and quickly. Sound level is fine and I like the ability to blow fines out after grinding. It requires a tiny amount of RDT to prevent static. It was a great choice for me and my budget.

Love it. It just needs more sound deadening.

Lovely fluffy grounds. Good mix of sweetness and clarity. I just wish it was a quiet as my Eureka

A significant improvement.

This is my second Turin grinder, and my fifth burr grinder, total. I also purchased the original DF64. Before that, my primary grinder was a leading competitor. I found that the original DF64 was very capable of turning out delicious coffee, but there were many aspects in which it lagged behind leading competitors, mainly regarding workflow. It was louder, messier, and its dosing cup was aesthetically unpleasing, and its adjustment ring collar was flimsy and obnoxious. The worst aspect was its on-off switch being in an awkward place. This overcame some of its innovations, like the option of using a portafilter, or a dosing cup -- I much prefer the latter, but for some users, it's vital to have the option. Eventually, it became so fouling-prone that the grinder seized up, and even after repeated dissassemblies, detailed cleanings, and reassemblies, it would not stay in opration. I put it in a corner of the closet, never to use again. That came after less than 18 months of use. However, I was intrigued enough by its potential that I was willing to give Turin a second chance. That's because, when it was up and running, if I could get it dialed in (which it did not make easy) then I could get beautiful results. I basically bought it because I wanted a second, good, grinder so that I could do decaf and regular on 2 different grinders to reduce waste and cross-contamination; and I also wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. The bottom line was... no, it did not live up to the hype, but it had potential

It's early days, but so far, I am very pleased with my decision to get another one. Turin really listened to the community, and made huge improvements with the second generation DF64; it fixes so many of the weaknesses, without sacrificing any of its strenghts. It is quieter. It is not messy. The start-stop switch is much more accessible. The dosing cup feels more solid. And, the most important thing: the function of the flat-burr grinder, is still great. I can't say it's clearly better or worse, but the burrset was never the problem. This is a huge improvement over the original, at the same very impressive price point, well below the competition it was designed to beat. Although I still like those other grinders too, both in terms of aesthetics, and grind quality, I would give this a very high rating, and I would especially recommend it to anyone who wants a highly capable grinder at a very digestible price point.
For anyone who wants to know how to interpret this review: ny primary brew method is espresso; my daily drivers are third-wave (lighter roast, single origin), often Ethiopian, but I also love South American (leaning towards Columbia and Peru) when my preferred roasters have good stock available. I brew on a very simple, all-analog, E61 machine (no flow control - I just use recipe variables to shape my brew profile), and I use that with a billet steel basket with a high-flow pattern (won't mention the brand, but if you're reading this, you can figure it out...) and always use a shaker in my puck prep.

Bottom line: This is looking like a redemption moment. It's really cool that you listened to the community and revised the product. I am really happy to have this new grinder. I hope it lasts longer in my service than the last one - if it does, then you've made a product that does live up to the potential; and you've turned hype into a reality. If so, I will say, "way to go, Turin!"
